In Season 1 of HSL for 2019, nine schools from Australia & NZ battled it out across 8 weeks to become champions. Each week we saw talent and enthusiasm from all players featured on SKY Sport and Twitch every Monday evening, casted by none other than Matt "Smite" Ross and Sebastian "Lennox" Rodriguez.
Our teams were:
WEEK ONE
Week One saw Mount Albert Grammar School take on Rangitekei College. MAGS managed to take out the win in a landslide victory against Rangitikei College 2 and the first win of the season.
The first game of the night went so quickly that we had time to spare to broadcast another - Scotts College vs. Rangitoto College 1. This was another one-sided victory as Scotts took the W 31-0 against Rangitoto.

WEEK TWO
Week Two featured Lynfield College vs. Rangitoto College 1. Rangitoto College get their first kill of the match but Lynfield bit back with a fantastic plays from the team, led by captain Lyanden. They took out this match in a landslide victory against Rangitoto, once again leaving enough room for Rangitikei College 1 vs. Te Puke High School. The winner was TPHS who capitilised on their enemy's mistakes to take the victory.

WEEK THREE
Week Three saw a relatively even game compared to the past two weeks with Scots College up against Te Puke High School. Scots were a popular team who had shown strength in offline matches, but TPHS were ready for a challenge. TPHS started off strong but Scots College took back the lead with some awesome plays to bring the score to 10-6, ultimately prevailing with a 35-23 win.

WEEK FOUR
Te Puke High School returned in Week 4 to take on Lynfield College, another fan-favourite team who had already shown strength in previous HSL tournaments. TPHS got the first kill and put up a strong fight but it was not enough - Lynfield College took the W 42-12 and catapulted themselves up to the top of the leader-board.

WEEK FIVE
Week 5 saw two HSL veteran schools Lynfield College & Mt Albert Grammar School go head-to-head. MAGS took first blood at the start of the match but Lynfield let everyone know that they were in it to win it. They triumphed 45 - 14 against MAGS with MVP & captain Lyanden clutching the last couple of kills to send off the game.

WEEK SIX
Week 6 pitted the top of the table vs the bottom of the table Scots College & Rangitekei College 2. 20 minutes in Scots dominated 45-0 against Rangitikei College 2, but just before the half-hour mark Rangitikei finally got their first kill. However the odds were against them and Scotts triumphed 86 - 2 against Rangitikei thanks to MVP plays from eatpls and nicoos.

WEEK SEVEN
It was all or nothing in the final round-robin week of HSL. Week Seven judged who would make it through to the semi-finals and the pressure was on for Te Puke High School vs. Mt Albert Grammar School. In one of the most nail-biting episodes in HSL history Te Puke High School were off to the Semi Finals after a fierce battle against MAGS - who put up an awesome fight and showed great sportsmanship.

SEMI FINALS
The top 4 teams at the end of the Round Robin were headed to the Semis, with a Seed 1 vs Seed 4 and Seed 3 vs Seed 2 BO3 match format. First up was Lynfield College vs. Haileybury College in an epic NZ vs. AUS battle. Lynfield eventually took Semi Finals Week One at 2-0 and secured their place in the Grand Final!
Next up was Scots College vs. Te Puke High School in the battle for the grand final, deciding which team would go up against Lynfield. Arcadia of Te Puke High School took first blood and dominated with a 5-kill streak but the score remained fairly close - however Scots managed to take down their opponents defenses and win the match despite TPHS holding more kills on the scoreboard. They clutched a quick & easy second win to secure their grand final place.

GRAND FINAL
This was it! Scots College and Lynfield College were to battle head-to-head for the championship title. After a shaky start in Game 1 where Scots took the W, Lynfield College eventually found their rhythm. With captain Lyanden dishing out god-tier plays they clutched Game 2 and forced the finale to an intense BO3 third game. In a landslide victory Lynfield win HSL Season 1 2019 - also defending their title from the Dota 2 HSL Holiday Cup!
